Tour Overview

After being picked up from your hotel by your private local guide, you will leave Salzburg and continue south, crossing the border into Germany on your way to the first German village, Markt Schellenberg.

On your journey to the “Obersalzberg” Eagle’s Nest bus terminal, pass the Sound of Music Meadow, where Maria sang the opening scene in the renowned musical Sound of Music, to get your first glimpse of the Eagle’s Nest. Then, continue on an off-the-beaten-path road towards the “Obersalzberg.”

Visit Obersalzberg, the ruins of the Berghof and other WWII sites to learn more about the history of the region. Hitler’s former retreat on Obersalzberg was the Berghof, located at an altitude of 1,000 meters. The Hotel zum Tuerken was used by the Nazis and is now private property and since 2021 closed to the public.

You may explore some of the most significant World War II landmarks, including the Eagle’s Nest, for two hours with this skip-the-line ticket. You’ll save time by not having to wait in huge lines or deal with other hassles when buying tickets in person.

Highlights include the Eagle’s Nest access road, the original elevator and tunnel, the former conference room, the red marble fireplace that Mussolini gave to Hitler, and more.

After visiting the Obersalzberg and the Eagle’s Nest your way will continue to the historical town center of Berchtesgaden explore the town and try some Bavarian specialty for lunch (at your own expense).

A must see while in Salzburg! Our guide, Patrick, was superb. He was extremely polite and friendly. He was quite knowledgeable. As a native of Salzburg, he provided many unique insights into the region and showed us many "off the beaten path" attractions. I would highly recommend him to anyone who is considering a personalized small tour.

Highly recommend We highly recommend this tour and tour company! Patrick was our guide and driver to visit the salt mine, Berchtesgaden and the Eagle's Nest. We felt like VIPs because of his personalized attention and knowledge of the different locations and the history of them. He navigated us through the crowds of large tour groups - it will be nearly impossible for us to go back to being part of a large group on a bus after this experience! He made great recommendations and handled all the ticketing as well as the lunch reservations. We had a beautiful view at the restaurant in Berchtesgaden and the food was great. He took us right where we needed to be on time. He was always there when we exited the tour sites to take us to the next site. And we enjoyed our conversations with him as he drove! It was a five star experience all around! We highly recommend Patrick and MCM Tours and Travel!

Wonderful Experience This was one of the best experiences I have ever had. Gabriel picked me up right on time. She was very friendly, courteous and full of information. I am a photographer and I told her what interests me the most which is both nature and architecture. One of the reasons I chose the private tour was I knew I’d be able to adjust the itinerary if desired. Gabriel gave me several options to adjust if I wanted. In Hallstatt the town and its charm were evident everywhere. The lake and its surrounding are beautiful and well worth the trip. We decided that after Hallstatt I would take the gondola up to Obertraun which gave spectacular views of the alps. There is a trail to the five fingers lookout that provided breathtaking views in every direction. Gabriel provided great history lessons for me as well as she grew up in the area! So Gabriel thank you so much!

Highly recommended tour! Great guide! Beautiful part of the world! We had a wonderful full day private tour of the Berchtesgaden/Eagles Nest area. We thoroughly enjoyed this tour! A combination of stunning alpine scenery, amazing little Bavarian towns, combined with the history of the area. We were lucky enough to have Manfred as our guide who was fantastic. Very knowledgeable, very accommodating, knew his history, and a pleasure to deal with. It was a very comfortable day with a lovely car to tour around in. He went out of his way to take us on a quick detour to the see the Koenigsee area which we were very grateful for. Would not hesitate to use MCM tours again when we're next in this part of the world!

Fantastic Private Tour to Hallstatt We had a wonderful half-day excursion to Hallstatt with Manfred! He made the journey just as memorable as the destination, stopping along the way for phenomenal views and even including a few Sound of Music highlights. He went above and beyond, securing a fabulous lakeside table for lunch in Hallstatt. Everything was perfectly timed, allowing us to make the most of our day without ever feeling rushed. Manfred was knowledgeable, personable, and truly made this an unforgettable experience. Highly recommend!

Fun and informative day trip from Salzburg Gaby was fantastic. Our weather wasn't the best, but she made the tour so fun and informative that the weather didn't matter. She knew where to go for views and parking, gave us a good recommendation for lunch in Halstatt and other recommendations for where to go in Halstatt. We took the boat across to Obertraun, where she met us and brought us back to Salzburg. I feel like we spent the day with a good friend, not just a tour guide. Gaby has two children (Patrick and Lena) that you may get as tour guides, and I'm sure that they would be as nice and informative as Gaby. Take this tour :-)

Excellent comprehensive tour tailored to our interests An amazing, fun, informative and flexible tour tailored to our interests. Manfred was an excellent guide--so knowledgeable about the area and the subject--both the Eagle's Nest/Berchtesgaden sites and Sound of Music sights as well, taking us on short side trips to add to the experience. We loved every minute of this tour!
